A
commission for a retirement gift.
There
is some symbolism with turning over a new leaf for another
phase of life and the number of leaves, but my primary
objective was to make the final result rich and lustrous
to celebrate the special occasion.
The
classic lines of the bath's base suggested an elegant
design for the tiles. I was much inspired by the flow
in the work of Alphonse Mucha. Also the greenish cast
of the material helped determine the tile's color. I wanted
the piece to feel as if it has been around a long time.
