Object: Loggerhead Turtle Bench, Commission

Materials: Vitreous Glass Tesserae with Dark Grey Grout on a Concrete Bench

Dimensions: 3 Foot (37"x14")

Method: Indirect (glued to paper and then transfered to the bench after pregrouting)

Gisa and Johnny were my clients. Johnny's love for the ocean determined the subject matter, a sea turtle, as well as the dominant color of blue. I received carte blance for all else, so I experimented with veined blue tiles to get more variety in the water. The tiles used for the turtle are more transparent and are veined with bronze/gold. When the sun hits the turtle, it sparkles so beautifully.
